I generally do 75 pushups on the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test: 2 minutes for Push Ups, 2 minutes for Sit Ups, 2 Mile Run), so I am amending my goal to be 100 Push Ups in 2 minutes.... _________________

I love this, think I'll join in!
A long time ago, I (Orange) tried out for American Gladiators (this was back in the 90's when the show was actually pretty cool) and the first of four tests to weed us out was a push-up challenge. Men had to do 60 clap push-ups in one minute and women had to do 30 regular ones in one minute. (BTW, I'm female.) I had never tried to do that many in one set so I remember being really nervous because I really wanted to make it! Sure did weed out a lot of people, though. |

Some of my fondest memories of Yosemite include two trips to the top of Half Dome via Little Yosemite Valley. While still in college a group of us made the trek and met a man in his 60’s who was hiking the John Muir trail. Now that I’m approaching that “old” guy’s age I understand and appreciate his determination and resolve. My souvenir from that trip was a can of tuna torn open by a bear. (This was before the bear boxes were placed in the campground.) Years later my wife and I made the same trip and were surprised by a bear cub strolling through our campsite in the middle of the day. We thought it was cute until we realized mama bear had to be close by. Although recent events may keep me from attempting Half Dome again, I can at least see how many push-ups I can attain over the next six weeks. |

Awesome. Great to have you all on board and joining me. Remember, if you're finding this thread weeks after we've started it, it's never too late to start! This isn't a competition, just a personal challenge to see if it's even possible. Me, I've NEVER had great upper body strength. Like I said in the show, my leg / lower body strength, matched up with my light frame, made me quite formidable on the mountain bike, road bike and inline skate racing, but upper body? Not ... yet!!!
Completed my first day and my arms are JELLO!!!
Stay safe and Keep on Pushin'!!!!

I'll join in, but need to wait until Thursday when I can get on a "real" computer to check out the program.
Great idea for a personal challenge, Sonny, thanks!! |

When you get to the cable ladder on the side of Half Dome you'll be glad that you did all those push-ups. |

Day 1 Complete...
I am surprised at how little time is actually devoted in a given week.
Incidentally, once you complete this program, and are presumably able to do 100 pushups, pyramids are a good maintenance tool.
example:
1 Pushup, 10 seconds rest
2 pushups, 15 seconds rest
3 pushups, 20 seconds rest
4 pushups, 25 seconds rest
5 pushups, 30 seconds rest
6 pushups, 35 seconds rest
7 pushups, 40 seconds rest
8 pushups, 45 seconds rest
9 pushups, 50 seconds rest
10 pushups, 55 seconds rest
9 pushups, 60 seconds rest
8 pushups, 60 seconds rest
7 pushups, 60 seconds rest
6 pushups, 60 seconds rest
5 pushups, 30 seconds rest
4 pushups, 30 seconds rest
3 pushups, 15 seconds rest
2 pushups, 10 seconds rest
1 pushup
100 pushups. Approximately 10 minutes. _________________

Count me in on the 100 pushup challenge as well! I just did my initial push up test and I'm ready to go. I'll start my training on Wednesday. Looks like a fun challenge. I'm going to do it at the gym and surprise my wife once I hit 100. Here's how the conversation may go:
Me: Hey honey, I bet you I can do 100 pushups
Wife (while laughing): I bet you can't even do 20.
Me: If I do it do I get to pick the location of our next vacation?
Wife (still laughing): IF you do it, you can pick the location of our next 5 vacations!!
Wish me luck!
Nice show guys. I enjoyed the culmination of the Amtrekker interview. |

Mr Wanderer used a similar program to get back into running. It's called the Couch to 5K, there are even mp3's that you can load to listen to while doing your programs.
Over the course of 8 weeks they prep you to actually run a 5K race, and it works! _________________

Alternatives. Just wanted to point out that the site has alternative push ups that you can try as well. Again, you are not in competition with anyone else here. The key is your own progress within your own capabilities. Just knowing that you CAN progress might just be the motivation to keep on going on!
http://hundredpushups.com/what.html#alt
From the site:
"Remember, the main aim of the hundred push ups program is to improve your strength, fitness and general health. It really doesn't matter what style of push up you perform as long as you continue to make progress and keep challenging yourself. Give the 6-week program a chance and I know you'll be amazed at your new found strength. Good luck!" _________________ Have you found it yet? |

Hmm.. To add or not add to my work out? That is the question...
I won't start until next week for two reasons. 1) I am nursing a sore shoulder right now from throwing my arm out during a Volleyball game. 2) I am weird about starting new things at the beginning of the month.
So, hopefully, I can do the test on Saturday (hope the shoulder has healed). Then, based on what I was able to do about 6 months ago, I will proceed with the very rigourous (have you looked at weeks 4-6) third column.
I will be a week behind you all, but hopefully, I can do it. _________________
