FYI - The One Million Caches page is functional again.
So, I've just pulled into the parking lot at work, and I figure I'll listen to just one more story on the show before heading inside. I grab the crossword puzzle book I'm working through (currently working on an NYT Saturday from 2006 by Brendan Emmet Quigley, thanks for asking) to see if I can get a few more words in the grid while I listen.
Imagine my surprise when I hear the PS101 Series mentioned (yet again!) during the segment on the puzzle cache 17! I'm glad your listeners are enjoying it ... I have never once asked someone to plug it on the show!
Here's some advice to your listeners who want to continue to improve on their puzzle-solving ability: solve more puzzles. It doesn't really matter what type - the more you do, the better you'll get at puzzles in general. It's the same as playing scales or rudiments on an instrument - practice builds familiarity.
If you are completely and totally stuck on a puzzle but happen to have the solution available (as you might with a crossword or other pencil puzzle), don't be afraid to look at the answer. The answers will teach you more information you might see in future puzzles, either in specific answers or methods of convoluting the clues.
To respond to the challenge posed by your listener - I am already working on Puzzle Solving 201. It's not anywhere close to ready yet, but you'll know here when it is.

Distracted driving is a huge issue and as a motorcyclist, I'm particularly glad that the discussion continues on PodCacher. I'm a little baffled by the trailer hitch advice in this episode. Clearly, that is not the answer when there are motorcycles, scooters, bicycles, pedestrians and other vulnerable people on the road.
I think of Anita Zaffke, who was killed last year while stopped at a red light on her motorcycle - hit from behind by a woman who was painting her nails while driving! Or my cousin who was killed on her bicycle two years ago - riding on a residential street, she was hit from behind and thrown 75 feet by a man who neglected to stop his SUV at a stop sign before making a right turn. Apparently he was lost and very well may have been distracted by a GPS or map.
Driving is a full-time job. Remember, a sedan becomes a 3000# projectile when piloted by a distracted driver. An SUV, 5000# or more. Think of the physics! _________________

THANKS!!! You guys have no idea how much your support means to us. Especially when we're tired, unmotivated, busy and hectic.
For this show, we recorded some Saturday afternoon, then went to the Ignite event. On Sunday we recorded the 2nd half, put all the equipment away and I prepared to edit. It was then I realized we lost the audio. Can't describe what it's like to try every strategy you know, and keep coming up empty. Went to tell Sandy and then went out for Noodles for lunch.
We got back from Noodles and sat down, looked at each other, took a deep breath, smiled at each other and turned on the recorder again.
Again, sincerely, thanks for your support. _________________ Have you found it yet? |

I thought the show was seamless Sonny and I wouldn't have even known you rerecorded 30 minutes of it. You guys are true pros....and you still managed to get it out on time. Amazing.
BTW, I'm coming up on 3 years as a Podcacher monthly subscriber and I only wish I would've become a member sooner. I think giving just a little back each month is the least we can do as listeners. |

Thank you.
Here are some subtle clues that indicate it was a split recorded show:
If you listen at the beginning we say something like it's a rainy weekend. Well it only rained on Saturday. We also say: "We're PLANNING on going to a pretty unique event". As in future, later that night.
After Clan Doyle's audio we talk about the event in past tense because we recorded it the next day. For those of you who heard our Audioboo about this, we also said that we went out for Noodles with the top down and enjoyed the sunshine. Not the same rainy Saturday. Sunday was nice.
Finally, you "might" be able to pick up that my voice is scratchier on the 2nd half of the show when compared to the first half.
I'm just REALLY glad we didn't record the whole show in one sitting (we usually do) and lose the ENTIRE show and have to re-record. That HAS happened before. _________________ Have you found it yet? |

I think I posted this in the wrong spot initially to get much traffic, but I wanted to make sure that Sonny couldn't say he 'missed it' 'cause he's chicken

I didn't know that the Ignite events were so prevalent. I signed up last week for Ignite Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan campus. The lead presentation for tomorrow's event is How to Kill a Mastodon. Some other titles are: Natural dyes: The movement towards smaller, slower, & sustainable; Why Your Representative is Obsolete, Running with Lasers (I am especially curious about that one), The Singularity is Near, Home Funerals: Caring for your own dead, and Massive Molecular Bandwidth, Naturally. _________________ The first step is admitting you're addicted.
