I thought the Podcast app on my Droid was broken - it wouldn't download any updates for the current show. Then I went to the web site and found it wasn't posted yet. Finally, I checked the forums! I should have done that first! It's been a long time since I was in here. _________________

I noticed the tracking number on the coin too. When I went to the Details tab and at the bottom (before the pics of coins) under Features it states the coins are trackable. hmmm that is a surprise.
I am unsure what type of things can get done to the top side of the
make-your-own geocoin and what things they won't do. It only looks like a smooth surface. I wonder what the pics or design coating is made from and if it lasts?
Happy sixth anniversary you crazy kids! I hope you come a bit further North to San Francisco or Mill Valley sometime so I can show you around. _________________ Woof Woof! |

I loved looking at the pictures of monarch butterflies and eucalyptus leaves - something I associate with Australia, and realising they were in Monterey, also something I associate with Australia because in our state there are a lot of pine timber plantations (which provide good forests for orienteering and caching) that use..... Monterey Pines!
We own a few caches based on movies:
http://coord.info/GCMKRD is a puzzle cache based on the Lemony Snickett's Series of Unfortunate Events movie.
We also have a Lord of the Rings series (I'm sure there are plenty of these around the place!) culminating in http://coord.info/GC12E7A - Mt Doom, which can only be reached when the other caches are found - Lothlorien, The Shire, Rivendell and Fangorn Forest. We tried to place all caches in appropriate locations. Mt Doom is on top of a prominent hill (appropriately named Black Hill in real life), Lothlorien is in a grove of silver-barked deciduous trees that turn on a brilliant golden display in autumn, The Shire is in rolling farmland with small little cottages dotted about and Fangorn Forest is in a thick Monterey Pine plantation full of prickly gorse bushes.
We also have a series of caches based on a computer game - World of Warcraft - but that's just a bit too nerdy, isn't it? (and not a movie... yet). |

For something trackable and engraved, rather than full colour, take a look at this German store http://www.geocoinshop.de/Geocoins-with-Engraving
We have used them for birthday coins and been pleased with the output |

No problem! Sounds like you had a great time in Monterey!
The comment on duplicate logs is a real issue that occurs when logging from the field on a smart phone. It goes through but you don't receive the visual confirmation on your phone, so one tries again. Unless the cache owner deletes the errant extra log(s), the finder has no way of knowing. This is a problem when finding many on a power run and logging on that peak Sunday afternoon period in the field! One mitigation is to use a tool like GSAK or CacheStats to scroll through your MyFinds query to highlight duplicate cache logs (so you can delete them). At the end of logging caches for the day, it is always best to scroll through your list to check for this too and the count. Sometimes you overlook logging a find too. Thanks for mentioning this topic; correcting duplicate logs can mess up milestones so if that matters, check and correct this when approaching the next magic number, before you log it online!
While the creativity of the NASA engineer should be acknowledged, he didn't actually go up to the ISS. There is not a designation for First to Virtually Find. TJ Creamer gets the FTF, if registered at geocaching.com ...
Recall visiting Ghirardelli square in San Francisco in the early 80s. Did you pick up samples to place in the pod cacher prize vault; if so, there will be many more entrants in your next contest!!!
