Is there a sample whereigo cartridge that can be played anywhere? The closest one to me is almost 100 miles away and I'd just like to see what it's all about. _________________ If you hide it, they will come!

regarding show 310 about the med student who got stranded.
(From timestamp 7:00 to 10:32
you guys were talking about wishing the GPS technology had the ability to advise on paved and unpaved roads.
They actually do. My 4 year old Garmin nuvi 680 and wifes 2 yrs old nuvi 760 does at least and Im sure the newer ones do too.
The cities/states have to categorize the roads as which type of road it is. (highway, freeway, off road, unpaved, paved, etc etc)
On the Garmin nuvi's, its part of the "Avoidances" menu on Navigation menu button where you can set (check) to allow you to go or dont go to those places/types of roads. Of course most non-techies never go into their GPS menus.
Another issue is that MANY of the maps on the nav units are outdated. Even if its a brand new map its already 2-3 years old road data because by the time the surveyors and city planners submit the finalized changes to roars, and then by the time the info is sold to the map makers and the actually put into the map data to sell to us and installed on the GPS units is a LONG time. By then the roads have changed.
Also a lot of folks never update their maps after buying their units.
So, I can see how this could happen.
Just wanted to clarify that though that the tech DOES and has had this feature for a while now.
Hope this helps _________________ salsaguy |
