First to post in view of a Mexican Consulate
The Calender Year Challenge
1. If it's getting close to midnight and you realize you haven't found a cache that was needed for the day, all may not be lost. Depending on how far you live from a time zone change you could run, bike, car, jet, or ..... Can't say I've had to do that yet.
2. Would the use of a TARDIS be considered cheating?
3. In response to Nighthawk 700: While I wasn't worried about snow, I was concerned about rain, distance to travel, and meetings. I had to make sure I had caches available to grab in the rain - most were LPCs and I even had an Earthcache set aside. I had to make sure I had caches close to the house for quick grabs. It was hard to do, but I had to sit at the computer and cry when new postings came out and I couldn't go get them. Note to those wanting to get their first FTF - put out one of these calender challenges near you and you might increase your FTF chances a bit.
I have a chart on my wall at my office that shows when I have found caches and when I need them. I use the computer's calender to keep track as well. It's synced with my Blackberry warning me ahead of time that I need a cache.
I'm dow to just December 17 and 18. I have an event to go to on the 17th and a couple caches lined up on the 18th that won't be effected by rain, so I should have this thing done this year.
I had thought of Nighthawk's idea of scouting out caches ahead of time. I didn't exactly do it. I did a driveby on a few to see what I would be up against. And some I just Googled to see that they would be LPCs. So I don't see a problem with his idea.
As for the logging, I see many times, and even more so with travel bugs and coins, that the date shown for peole finding a ache isn't always right. It's justthe day they remembered or had time to log. As for me, I'm pretty anal about getting the date right. But I don't lose sleep over others not having the correct date. Whatever lets people sleep at night.
Be sure to drink your Ovaltine! |

We get our kids the Advent calendar's with the candy too (even though they are 12 and 14 now)...
We also use the paper chains, but we have it countdown until we depart for San Antonio (we always seem to go 'back home' for Christmas). This year will be a 26 hour drive but Muggle Mom said we can take a different route back to get caches in LA, MS, AL, FL, GA and SC... Should pick up AR on the way down so we should cover most of the Southeast for our 50 states challenge... |

Now that daylight hours are short and the weather is cold and snow will soon be here I don't look for caches that are close to home unless it is to fill in an open spot on the grid. There are 3 caches that are very close that I will wait until Feb 29, 2012 to look for. If I don't find one there will be 2 backups to look for. |
