What's so special about a mountain bike coin?

Might want to explain who he is to the newbies.

Great show that I plan to listen to again on the way home.

Good point. And this is kind of a brief history as I understand it.

Moun10bike was one of the early and avid Geocachers, caching since Sept 2000. He wanted to make something unique and put his more on Geocaching. Which he did.

Moun10bike was the first person to come up with the Geocoin. He created and had 100 built in Sept. 2001 and engraved with # 001 - 100 right about the same time that Groundspeak was creating Travel Bugs.

Moun10bike while out with Jeremy (one of GS founders) placed #002 in a cache on Sept 30, 2001. The first placement of a Geocoin in a cache.

It's my understanding that Moun10bike held onto #001 for a few years before releasing it. It is now at GS HQ - You can see the log info using TB1D in the tracking page (that's not the number to log it.) I discovered it while at the Geocaching Block Party last month.

I also met Moun10bike in person while out on the trip at 'The Lovely Picnic' event. Nice guy.

I hope I got all those details correct.

Not that it would have mattered - I still won the trivia game Very Happy

Not by much though as it was a very close game.

To clue everyone else in, at The UNNAMED EVENT (this was the first of an annual event that now has a name) cacher JustKeely put together a geocaching version of Trivial Pursuit. It had History, Science, Vocabulary (definitions), and... can't remember the rest. If we didn't play the last game of the day it was close to it. Anyway, some of the questions were very easy, others had you dusting off some brain cells that hadn't been used in a while, and others were just downright tough. On the really tough ones we'd help each other out a bit. Was a lot of fun, and I look forward to playing again next year (if not sooner).

It was an extremely fun game if you ask me. And JustKeely and others involved in coming up with some of the trivia such as Criffree all did a great job IMO. I've talked to Team Four Paws (JustKeely's husband) about it the other day and told him how much fun it was.

The inventor of the Geocoin got the idea from military challenge coins. Confirmed this when meeting him at GeoWoodstock in Seattle. Have a collection of those that pre-date geocaching. Our first signature item was a challenge coin for boaters. Razz

Thanks for another show!
