I just listened to todays show #88 and there was mentioned a geocaching motivational CD. What songs were used? I want to make one.. I'm new and can't find a complete list on the site?

I may also post this elsewhere for info:
We prepare the show all throughout the week. Usually Sandy spends quite a good deal of time with this part.
On Sunday we do final prep work, record, mix, and release the show.
On Sunday Jan 21st we began final prep at about 5pm. This includes converting all sound files to a usable format (many don't just nicely drop into my recording app: GarageBand). Some audio needs more work than others so it's not to quiet or too loud or too hissy or too stumbly or too ... you get it.
Sandy and I go over show notes, sequence, what to include, what to leave out.
At 6p I took a call and was on till 7p.
At 7p we continued (photos, links, etc.) and were ready to record the opening intro at 8p.
You need to know that we move FAST, very fast. We rarely re-do audio anymore, if we stumble, unless it's REALLY bad, we'll leave it in and you'll hear it on our show. I edit on the fly, again VERY fast. Clips of audio from listeners that need editing take more time to get it right. Bumpers, audio from calls, audio submitted, emails, forum posts, the PTC, photos for the PTC, shout-outs. GPS reviews and news. You've heard the show.
After the show is recorded, I need to go over each transition to make sure we didn't goof a splice before I do the final mix down.
As I do the final mix down, Sandy codes the shownotes with links, and references.
After the mix I encode the MP3 with tags and then ftp the file to our server for distribution. Sandy links the file to the shownotes at this time.
While the file is uploading, we make sure the flickr photos are in the correct set and labeled.
Once the show posts AND we are able to download it ourselves (like a listener would) we consider the show "in the can".
For show 88 the show was "in the can" at 2:00am on Monday morning Jan 22nd.
This show took way over 7 hours to produce. Most take less (5 hours maybe?) and some actually take more (listen to show #76 with the desert camping to hear one that kicked our butts).
The estimate of time is based on producing without any tech glitches. If there is a glitch it can take MUCH longer. A few times I remember being up a 1:00am and losing the entire show and having to re-do the entire thing. The entire thing, with the same amount of energy, pep and "spontinaeity" ... yah ...
Once the show is "in the can", we go to bed and I get up in the morning to go to work (typically 5:45a). We wake up and read podcacher emails or the forums to find out what you guys thought of the show.
FYI: This Thursday I begin teaching at the University for the semester so now things will start to get busy.... _________________ Have you found it yet? |

Re: The shorter show; I agree with imfrog2002, I love the long show. The usual 50-60 minute long shows are perfect to listen to the beginning on my way to work, and the end on the way home. Today, I actually had to listen to something else on my way home. Bring back the longer shows! If people don't want to sit through the whole thing in one sitting, they can always pause, and come back later! I know you can't please all the people all the time, but that's my take on it. |

I prefer the longer shows myself. I usually can't listen to an entire long show at one sitting, so I'm always delighted when there's more to listen to. The last show, although not too long (there really no such thing!), I had to listen to in two installments -- one on the way to work, and then another on the way home. I had forgotten that I hadn't gotten to listen to it all until I got in the car this afternoon and was delighted to have the treat for the drive home.
That being said, I understand completely about the time thing -- you gotta do what ya gotta do! _________________ Carpe noctem! |

I like a longer show too, as then it lasts me on my commute to work AND on the way back! This week's show finished as the bus pulled into the hospital so I'm not sure what I'll listen to on the way home! |

Good show but I was suprized to hear that the CD did not include that hit that is burning up the charts "Don't Tell My Wife I'm Out Geocaching." |
